Due to contact with infected patients and waning immunity, health-care professionals are at an increased risk for contracting pertussis.15 In fact, it is estimated that the risk of pertussis is 1.7 times higher for health-care professionals than the general population.14 Additionally, outbreaks have demonstrated that a health-care professional can expose a vulnerable infant through limited contact.16

The CDCa recommends a single Tdapb booster for any health-care professional in contact with patients5

  • Health-care professionals employed by hospitals and in ambulatory-care settings who are in regular contact with patients5
  • Health-care professionals who anticipate having close contact with infants <12 months of age5

Help protect your patients, your practice, and yourself with Adacel vaccine.

Make pertussis protection a standard protocol in your office. Immunizing those among your staff who have direct contact with patients with Tdap vaccine can help remind them to talk to patients about the need for immunization. It also shows your patients how important Tdap immunization is to your practice. Organizing staff immunization days or pertussis awareness lunch meetings in your practice may introduce the importance of Tdap immunization to your staff.
